FMC PEACE LIBRARY


Location: Room 205 on the Main Level of First Mennonite Church (FMC), 405 Myrtle Avenue, Iowa City, IA 52246.

Hours: The Library is open on a self-serve basis during all times that the church building is open. A librarian is available to assist users immediately after Sunday morning church services.

Purpose: The FMC Peace Library was established to promote reading by all ages of members and regularly attending non-members. It provides support for:

    the FMC Christian Education program;
    other groups such as: Worship Commission, Sunday School classes, small groups, and Interterm classes;
    personal and group Bible and issue studies and for the pursuit of special interests;
    persons interested in Anabaptist history and peace issues; and
    general reading of enjoyment and enrichment.

Collection description: The library's holdings number more than 2,000 items including books, music CDs, books on CD and tape; DVDs, and video tapes for all ages, as well as other materials considered to be appropriate.

Policies: Most items can be checked out for four weeks. Exceptions are some video tapes and certain other materials that are designated as one week items. Items can be checked out using the computer located in the library. 

Finding items: The computer in the library can be used to search the library's holdings by topic, author, title, etc. and to determine if a particular item is checked out or currently on the shelf.

Shalom Readers' Club: The library participates in the Central Plains Conference Shalom Readers' Club program.
